Tao Te Ching, 24, Gia-fu Feng and Jane English

Pace and perseverance. Indifferents and things which violate virtue. Pride, concern for the opinion of others, efforts to aggrandize myself, whether based truth or lies doesn't matter.

And it doesn't work, anyway, as the passage tells us. It backfires.
