Deprecation of the Present, cont. 

The movement depreciates the past to gather unease about the present. Then it generates dissatisfaction with the present in the name of the glorious future. Then it retcons the past into a Golden Age. 

Put together, it brings the true believer to understand their role as merely a small part in the parade between Glorious Past and Utopia to come.
